A Cautionary Tale: Augustine, Aquinas, and Anne Rice...

Did you hear the one about how Archbishop Burke was "promoted out" of the US?
Patrick Madrid
That's what a great many of his Stateside critics would have you believe. But given the Archbishop's steady rise in prominence, influence, and his accumulation of real power within the Roman curia, I'd say his critics are really just whistling past the cemetery .

St. Martha: pulling apart a painting...
Fr. John Zuhlsdorf
In the National Gallery in London, you will find a painting by Velazquez entitled Christ in the House of Martha and Mary. I never fail to visit it when I visit that gallery. The painting - a variation on the bodegón or kitchen/tavern scene, and a Flemish combination of domestic and sacred scenes - is a bit of a puzzle. It has layers.

Every biblical quotation from Greek and Latin Church Fathers...
Taylor Marshall
This is going to be great! The BIBLindex is attempting to index 400,000 biblical quotations and references from Greek and Latin patristic writings. This means we'll be able to see search for how verses were cited in an advanced way. A fantastic tool. Here's more detail: The BIBLindex project is managed by the 'Institut des Sources Chretiennes.

Breaking: Miles Jesu learns from the Legion's mistakes, comes clean about their Founder, seeks renewal "in truth"...
Thomas Peters
This is a breaking story. Miles Jesu has communities in the United States in the Archdiocese of Chicago, Diocese of Phoenix, and also operates in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. In England the group operates in the Diocese of Westminster. It is a community of both consecrated men and lay associates ("Vinculum").

Anne Rice: "I quit being a Christian"...
Deacon Greg Kandra
The best-selling writer who made headlines with her dramatic conversion (or reversion) and wrote a popular book about her journey back to Catholicism, has changed her mind. She made the announcement on Facebook: "I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist.

The parish "shop and hop"...
Eric Sammons
One hundred years ago in this country, there were two factors which determined what parish a Catholic would attend: his geographic location and his ethnicity. If you were a recent immigrant, you went to the closest parish that served your people; if not, you just went to the closest non-ethnic parish.

Sister Mary Ann Walsh's Irony Challenged Moment...
Jack Smith
So this week, the National Catholic Reporter runs an editorial reflecting on the challenges U.S. women religious face in light of the Apostolic Visitation and a doctrinal assessment of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious.
